Wiksten Shift Dress Workshop, December 1st
Come join me in the Maker Mountain Fabrics Studio in Ben Lomond, California, outside of Santa Cruz, on Sunday, December 1st, from 10am - 4pm for a fun and relaxing morning sewing yourself the perfect dress for Thanksgiving dinner or any fall or winter day, just being your amazing self, living your amazing life.
The Wiksten Shift Dress is perfect on its own on warm days, or over leggings or jeans with a sweater in the cooler months. This loose shift Dress is both comfortable and elegant and makes both a perfect wardrobe staple or special occasion dress, because you know this is basically as dressed up as we get around here. Together we will sew the calf-length version, with side slits, a gathered back, 3/4 length sleeves, patch pockets and that gorgeous waist tie! If you are unfamiliar with the pattern, be sure to check out #wikstenshiftdress on Instagram to see all of the gorgeous versions people have been sewing! Think of how amazing you will feel wearing this incredible dress you have sewn yourself, according to your own perfect measurements so that you are completely comfortable, able to move around and be yourself without having to worry about your outfit once!
The pattern can be sewn in sizes 0-22 and you will be able, and excited, to sew all the other versions once you take that pattern home with you at the end of the class!
When you arrive for our responsibility free morning of sewing, I will have your pattern ready to cut out, your chosen fabric prewashed and sewing machines and all notions, tools and supplies ready for you. We will also be enjoying yummy brunch and drinks (alcohol and non) as we sew, take some time for ourselves and have fun with new friends.
This workshop is limited to 6 students so that I can give you all the help and attention you deserve. To enjoy this workshop you should have some previous sewing experience. If you know how to thread a machine, sew a straight line and wind a bobbin, this class is perfect for you!
Sewing skills you will learn while sewing this dressDolman Sleeves
- Patch Pockets
- Back Yoke With Gathers
- Neck Facings
- Turning a Tube
- Split Hems
- Bar Tacks for Added Strength
- Using a Size Chart and Making Basic Pattern Alterations To Get A Perfect Fit.
As this dress has more details and skills to learn than previous workshops, it is a bit longer and will include a more filling brunch. Please let me know in the notes with order if you have any dietary restrictions I should be aware of when planning our menu. I don't want anyone going hungry! The end time of all workshops is an estimate. Some of us take more time and I will kick no one out before they are done. 4 pm is my best estimate for how long this dress will take for your weekend planning purposes, but if anyone needs to leave before they are done, I will do my best to ensure you know how to finish all steps at home!
To sign up, simply choose your fabric, add to cart and check out! I will send you a follow up email with my address and more details about the amazing morning we will spend together the week before the workshop. If you have any questions at any time, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I would be happy to answer them.

Some colors have a more limited quantity available, once they sell out I will be unable to source more. If you have any questions about colors, just get in touch!
At this time the Maker Mountain Fabrics studio is not wheelchair accessible. I do hope to be able to make it so in the future, but currently there is 20 feet of uneven dirt to cross from the driveway to the studio.
If you have any special accessibility needs or concerns, please get in touch with me at email@example.com. I would love to discuss them and if possible, come up with a plan to make this workshop accessible to you.
